The fog-draped dawns give way to cool mornings and clear, sunny days. The chalky soil gently shifts and crunches underfoot. This cool-climate wine-growing region is where Joe Wagner farms. This land and these vines are in Joe’s blood. Born and raised in California’s wine country, he has devoted his life to the vineyard. And BÖEN, with its ripe fruit flavors, bright acidity and hints of toasty oak, is the purest expression of his signature style.
Flavors of bright cherry, blueberry, dark chocolate, coconut and black licorice are complexed by hints of toast, smoked meat and barrel spice. A medium bodied wine with bright acidity and very fine, persistent tannins.
Aromas of wild herb and earthy tones intermingled with blueberry pie, plum and a hint of toasty barrel spice. On the palate, the wine shows dark currant, black cherry and ripe plum.
Aromas of cherries, strawberries and blackberries, layered with hints of cola and caramel. This wine is intense and mouth-filling with flavors of cherry, crème de cassis and berry pie, complemented by supple acidity and firm tannins.
BÖEN is a translation of 'The Farm' and I chose it as a reminder to myself that the wine I make is indivisible from the land it comes from and that first and foremost, I am a farmer.
